Welcome to our newsletter, bringing you the latest findings from the community of researchers who publish in Findings. Findings is an interdisciplinary, independent, community-led, peer-reviewed, open access journal focused on short, clear, and pointed research results. Follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, or RSS.
We are continuing to expand our scope, with Energy and Resilience Findings coming soon. Let us know if you are interested in participating. Transport and Urban Findings are open for submission.
Stats
If I write an academic article, will it get read? We read horror stats that half of all articles are not read except by the authors and reviews. While this is not corroborated, the opposite is true for Findings. In the last 90 days (through December 17, 2021), we have had 29,699 pageviews, 23,068 article views, and 15,618 unique visitors. Since our launch in first quarter of 2019 we have had 195,480 pageviews. Obviously, everything is trending upward. Citations follow with a lag, because other journals are not as fast as Findings.
At the risk of exacerbating a positive feedback cycle, the top 5 articles (and pageviews) in the last 90 days were:
Impact of Charging Rates on Electric Vehicle Battery Life (2,644)
Airbnb during COVID-19 and what this tells us about Airbnb’s Impact on Rental Prices (1,646)
Spatial Analysis of Dog Ownership and Car Use in the UK (1,291)
Local Business Perception vs. Mobility Behavior of Shoppers: A Survey from Berlin (1,052)
Impacts of 2020 Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in London on Road Traffic Injuries (846)
All time the top viewed article is so far:
We subtitled this issue “Write as if people are reading”. If you write an article 7200 people read, and you make it 1 minute faster to read, you have saved 7200 person minutes in time. There are only 1440 minutes in a day, only a third of that (tops) is work. So at 480 minutes of work time, you have saved 15 human work days (3 work weeks). Did it take you 3 weeks to shorten the paper and get to the point directly? 3 days? 3 hours? 3 minutes? Maybe it was faster to write your paper concisely rather than circumnavigating your point using pleonastic and verbose phrasings? Maybe you saved time too.
